At 98th Percentile, Shoreline ED Throws Team Celebration

The SMCED hit the 98th percentile which means that only 2 percent of those measured scored higher in patient satisfaction.
“When we found out we scored at the 98th percentile again, we knew we had to celebrate and recognize all the staff who helped us achieve this goal,” said Sara Newman, R.N., patient service manager, SMC ED. “When patients rate us highly, those scores reflect the hard work and support of all the departments we rely so heavily on – namely Lab Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology, PFAS, security and our volunteers.”
Since it opened in July 2004, the Shoreline ED has been a busy place that year-round residents and summer visitors have increasingly come to rely on for emergency care. In 2006, ED staff treated 13,000 patients and in 2007, they saw 20,000.
More than 60 employees from the ED and the five areas that support it attended the party and appreciated that they were recognized.
“Shoreline Medical Center employees demonstrate remarkable teamwork on behalf of our patients,” said Richard D’Aquila, executive vice president and COO. “Because staff is fully committed to Service Excellence, Shoreline residents and visitors can come to this facility and receive the excellent care they expect from a facility bearing the name ‘Yale-New Haven Hospital.’”
“Everyone who works here is aware of patient care and patient satisfaction,” said Dave Wanat, assistant chief technologist, SMC Radiology. “We work hard to treat everyone with respect and in a timely manner and it was nice that the ED formally recognized how our efforts contribute to their score.”
