The All-Stars Came Out at Noon
In fiscal year 2008, employees scored above the Performance Incentive Plan (PIP) goal of 85 for patient satisfaction for the year, scoring an impressive 86.2. Contributing to last year’s patient satisfaction results were 88 employees who received 20 or more favorable mentions in letters, discharge phone calls or Fanmail, and last month, the hospital hosted a luncheon to honor these “All-stars.”
“It is wonderful to recognize you for the great things you do for our patients and their families,” Marna P. Borgstrom, president and CEO, told the “All-stars” in the East Pavilion cafeteria special events area. “You treat them as we would want our own families treated. At Yale-New Haven Hospital, this is what we are all about and we thank you today and every day for your important work.”
Clifford Ross, a milieu counselor on the Adolescent Unit in the Psychiatric Hospital, one of five from his unit to be honored, enjoyed the luncheon.
“Sometimes you feel like an unsung hero, so it’s nice when people notice that you are doing a decent job for patients,” said Ross, who has worked at YNHH for two years. “Positive feedback like this is really important and it will keep me striving to do a good job for patients.”
Tiffany Dean, receptionist/account assistant, Radiation Therapy, was one of nine in her department who were honored as All-Stars.
“It is nice to be recognized,” said Dean, a seven-year veteran, of the luncheon, “but the first priority in our department is not recognition – it’s our patients. Our job is to make them feel better about why they have to come here and we form a bond with them. I can make a difference with a patient just by smiling – and that’s a great feeling.”
